Speed limit reduction proposed for Handley village

The Parish Council has been pressing Cheshire West and Chester Council for a reduction in the speed limit through Handley village, and our ward councillor, Cllr Mike Jones, is following the request up with the Highways team.

Residents have raised repeated concerns about vehicles travelling too fast through the village, particularly during events at Bolesworth and Oulton Park and on fine summer evenings. The council has pointed out that the roads are narrow and residential, and that they are used every day by pedestrians, dog walkers and young children.

What happens next

Highways officers will assess the request against their speed management criteria before any change can be made. The council will report back at each meeting, and residents who have witnessed speeding or near misses are encouraged to report them to the police and to let the Clerk know, as a record of incidents strengthens the case.

A missing street light in Handley has also been reported to the highways authority and remains on the council’s list of matters to be resolved.
