Privacy Policy
Privacy policy
Handley and District Parish Council takes the privacy of residents and everyone it deals with seriously. This policy explains what personal information the council collects, why it collects it, and how it is kept safe. The council is the data controller for the personal information it holds, and the Parish Clerk is responsible for data protection on a day to day basis.
What we collect
The council collects personal information only where it is needed to carry out its work. This includes the names and contact details of people who write to the council, submit an enquiry through this website, raise a matter at a meeting, apply for a grant or stand for election. It also includes the details of councillors, the Clerk and suppliers, which the council needs to run its business and meet its legal duties.
How we use it
Personal information is used to respond to enquiries, to carry out the council’s statutory functions, to administer meetings and elections, to manage payments and to keep proper records. The council does not sell personal information or use it for marketing, and it shares information with other bodies, such as Cheshire West and Chester Council or the external auditor, only where the law requires or allows it.
How long we keep it
Records are kept in line with the council’s retention schedule. Minutes, accounts and other statutory records are kept permanently. Correspondence and enquiries are kept for as long as they are needed to deal with the matter and then securely deleted.
Your rights
You have the right to ask what personal information the council holds about you, to have inaccurate information corrected, and in some circumstances to have information erased or its use restricted. To exercise any of these rights, please write to the Clerk. If you are not satisfied with the council’s response you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Cookies
This website uses only the cookies needed to make it work and to gather anonymous statistics about how it is used. No personal information is collected through cookies.
